Last week Amazon unveiled a whole new line-up of tablets that are the second generation of the Kindle Fire and along with their announcement, Amazon said that two of the tablets would begin shipping out today. The new Kindle Fire HD line was actually fairly big, coming with a variety of models depending on what you wanted, whether it is a smaller 7" tablet, a bigger 8.9" WiFi version or even an 4G/LTE edition of the 8.9" tablet. Well for those of you who pre-ordered the 7" variety of the Kindle Fire HD, those units begin shipping out today.
There are actually two models that are shipping out today, the 7" Kindle Fire HD and the upgraded version of the original Kindle Fire, which most sites are labeling as the Kindle Fire 2. In case you missed out on the onslaught of tablet news coming from Amazon's press event last week, you can get a recap of everything in our previous article. For the sake of convience though, here are the more important hardware specs for the two models shipping out today:
Amazon's 7" Kindle Fire HD:
- 16 GB / 32 GB storage (Price: 16GB for $199, 32GB for $249)
- 7-inch 1280 x 800 touchscreen at 216 PPI
- TI OMAP 4460 1.2 GHz dual-core processor
- 5 Ghz MIMO Wi-Fi antenna
Amazon's Kindle Fire 2"
- 8 GB storage (Price: $169)
- 7-inch 1024 x 600 touchscreen at 169 PPI
- TI OMAP 4430 1.2 GHz dual-core processor
All of the new tablets come with double the RAM of their older brother as well. So if you happened to have pre-ordered either of these tablets, Amazon should be starting to ship them out today as long as nothing happens to prevent it. For the rest of the tablets though, they won't be shipping until November 20th, 2012.
